The short version
Aya is made by Hira Projects AB in Stockholm, Sweden. We collect as little as we can, use it only to make the app work for you, and never sell it. The detail below explains exactly what that means.
What we collect, and why
- Location. Your approximate location (or a city you pick) fetches local weather and air quality for your daily dosha forecast. You can use a manually chosen place instead of granting location.
- Apple Health (optional). With your permission, the app reads your heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, and last night's sleep to refine the forecast. This is read-only, stays on your device, and is never written back to Health or uploaded.
- Your dosha profile and daily inputs. Your prakriti quiz result, reflections, vikriti check-ins, action logs, trips, and (if you use it) menstrual-cycle data are stored only on your device.
- Food, menu, and coach photos (only when you use them). When you scan a food item or a menu, or attach a photo in the coach, that image and your dosha type are sent for an AI Ayurvedic read (see below).
- Coach messages (only when you use the coach). Your messages to the AI coach are sent to generate a response.
- Contacts (optional, only to find friends). If you choose to find friends, your contacts' numbers and emails are scrambled (hashed) on your device first; only those hashes are checked. Your real contacts never leave your phone.
What we never do
- We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- We do not show third-party advertising in the app.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
Who else touches your data
A few trusted services help run Aya. They only process what they need to provide their part of the app, on our instructions:
- Open-Meteo. Receives your coordinates to return weather and air-quality data. No account, no identifier.
- Anthropic (via our relay). The food, menu, and coach photos you submit, your coach messages, and your dosha type pass through our server to Anthropic's Claude to generate the AI read. They are used only to answer you, not to advertise to you.
- Apple. Apple turns your coordinate into a city name. If you use the optional Friends feature, your shared dosha card (first name and dosha numbers) and salted hashes are stored in your iCloud's public database via Apple CloudKit.
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. The app downloads a public, global space-weather number (the geomagnetic Kp index). No information about you is sent.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information only for as long as you use Aya. If you created an account, you can delete it and everything tied to it at any time from Settings → Delete account inside the app. That removal is permanent.
Anything stored only on your device is removed when you reset the app or delete it from your phone.
Your rights
Because we are based in the EU, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict how we use it. To exercise any of these, email us at hello@hiraprojects.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
Children
Aya is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the “last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
